The Pluses And Minuses Of Using Printing Services

Blog

If you own and operate a small business, but you do not have room for a copier, you could use printing services at a retail location. There are pluses and minuses to doing so, of course. (If you find that the drawbacks are too inconvenient, you may have to look at expanding your office space, or putting something in storage to make room for one or more copiers.)

Pluses

The positives of not owning a copier for your business are actually pretty positive.

  1. You never have to concern yourself with where to put the copier.
  2. You do not have to use up more electricity to operate the copier.
  3. You never have to worry about paper jams, paper and ink expenses, or frequent repair expenses.
  4. If you had a copier and became dependent on WiFi printing and copying and your internet went down, you do not have that frustration.
  5. If there is a power outage in your neighborhood, you would just go to a retail location to print and copy anyway.
  6. You do not have to replace the machine when it finally wears out or becomes obsolete.

All of the above concerns fall to the printing service store, who have to take care of their own machines, repair and replace them as needed. The stores that offer printing services also have backup generators if power is lost, which means that you will always be able to use the store's copiers/printers for whatever you need, whenever you need it.

Minuses

The minuses can be summed up in one word: inconvenience.

  1. You cannot copy what you need in your own office.
  2. You have to get in your car and travel to the printing store to get the job done.
  3. It might cost you more per sheet of printed/copied material that it would cost if you printed in-office.
  4. If you leave the job for the store employees to do, then you have to come back later to pick up your copies.
  5. If you need specialty copies, such as full-color copies, or embossed copies, that costs extra and takes longer.
  6. You cannot work late and make copies late at night because the printing and copying stores are not open past a certain hour. That means you would have to wait for them to open the next day and put a rush job on the order to get your copies in time for a meeting or presentation.

If you are a more organized person and plan ahead, "outsourcing" your copying and printing needs can work to your advantage. Otherwise, you should start looking for space for that new copier. Focusing On Graphic Design and Printing

When you first started your business, you might have been more concerned about getting the word out there than you were about how the word looked. Unfortunately, unattractive fliers and signs can make your company look unprofessional, which can cause customer problems down the road. However, if you work with the right graphic design team and you pay to have your materials printed professionally, you might be able to enjoy a healthier business. On my website, you will find articles about everything from graphic design to printing, so that you know what to look for in a team and how to choose printing materials.
